Bud not Buddy is a historical fiction book about a boy who lived in Flint, Michigan and his mother died 6 years ago, and she left signs of who his father was the signs she left bud keeps in his suitcase. Buds mother signs were that his father was Herman E. Calloway, he was a famous musician.he had no mom or father that left him to be an Orphan. Since he was an orphan he went to a foster home. The home he was in was horrible he was with the amos's Mrs and Mr amos had a son named Toddy, he abused Bud and told lies to get Bud in trouble. Mr. and mrs.
The book Bud Not Buddy was written in the great Depression but why wasn't it written in today's time? In the story mom wouldn't have died if they had better doctors. If the boy Bud was on the street in today's time someone would have took him in. If the book was written as a girl not a boy more people have helped. Tons of children and adults were very mistreated because of their race in the 1930s. Bud, not Buddy is about a 10-year-old boy that is black. He gets very mistreated because of his race. His mother died when he was 6-years-old and was in an orphanage. He goes a long way to find his dad, but who he expected was his dad was his grandpa.
Bud would have been educated if he was forced to go to school. After that, he goes to the library to researched how far Grand Rapids was and how far to travel. Bud needs to know how difficulty to his grandad. After he researched the trip he sees it was harder than he thought. Either way he still wanted to see his family.

To begin with, In chapter 3 Bud ran away from the Amoses Bud would've got caught if he ran from the Amoses. In modern time, we would have a lot more security and police.
