Bud had many characteristics throughout the story. In Bud Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis , Bud wanted to find his dad. At first he was so eager and scared to find his dad .At the end he was brave and optimistic about having a family. Bud changed throughout his journey in Bud Not Buddy by wanting to find his dad.
What if Bud Not Buddy was different. If Bud's mom didn't die. It was in Modern Ara time so she wouldn't have died. If Bud didn't get hungry all the time. I will explain what if the book was different.
He is trying to find his dad but he is in Grand Rapids and he is in Flint . Bud, Not Buddy would be a different book if there was modern technology because Bud would have been found when he ran away, his mom would have lived, and Bud would have better transportation to Grand rapids.
His self changed when he is told the truth that his is not really an elf but a human. Buddy’s sense of self is taken from under him and he goes in search not just to find his birth family but on a larger scale an identity in which he can call his own although it is just a social idea that is presented by society. In this thinking however Buddy makes sense of why he was never the best at doing elf things. To Walter his sense of self as a father changes because of Buddy’s presence but it also alters his relationship with his other son
Bud Not Buddy, written by Christopher Paul Curtis, is about a ten-year-old boy who embarks on a journey to find his long-lost father after the death of his mother. The book starts off during the Great Depression, when Bud is forced to live in a foster home. He then is adopted by the Amoses, who treat him horribly. This goes to show what harsh conditions people of color had to go through during those times. After that experience, he then ventures off to find his father after finding some sort of evidence he still has family in a briefcase given to him before his mother's death.
Before the turning point, Bud despised being called by other names because of what his mother constantly told him when she was alive. He also did not have family that he could trust and give love to. “I wasn’t about to let anybody call me Buddy and stick a pencil up my nose all the way to the R. I swung as hard as I could at Todd’s balloon head.” (Curtis, 13). Bud did not allow someone to call him Buddy, as Bud when Bud was called Buddy, he punched Todd Amos.
He is scared when he sleeps in the shed at the Amoses house. “I went from kind of calm to being in that stand-still-in-one-place-with-spit-drooling-down-the-front-of-your-shirt kid of scared.”. Bud was scared because of the bat, bugs, fish heads, and puddle of blood, which any normal kid would
Nathania Tilahun Ms Lesniak Language February 22 2023 Week 3 Reading Journal:Bud, Not Buddy Introduction: I am reading this book called Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis from chapter 9 to 11. Bud finds himself in the company of a jazz band called the Dusky Devastators of the Depression, led by Herman E. Calloway, who he believes is his father. The band initially does not believe him, but he eventually convinces them that he is related to Calloway by showing them a flyer with Calloway's picture and the name of his band. Bud is welcomed into the band and enjoys their music and company.
The novel, Found by Margaret Peterson Haddix, is mainly about two boys, Jonah and Chip. The adolescent Jonah Skidmore, feels like an average kid, with an intelligent but slightly annoying younger sister named Katherine. The fact that Jonah is adopted has never been a big deal for him, maybe due to his parents always being very open and reassuring about it. To Jonah, life feels normal. That is, until the letter arrives.

Bud, Not Buddy would've been a different book if Bud wasn't determined because he wouldn't have ended up figuring out that Herman was his grandpa, he wouldn't end up in a band, he would have stayed in the foster home at flint, and he never would have kissed Deza Malone. To begin with, Bud would've never found out that Herman was his grandpa and not his dad if he wasn't determined to search for him. In chapter 9, Bud decided to travel
In “Sonny’s Blues,” James Baldwin wrote a different type coming of age story. At the end of the story the narrator finally develops a new understanding for his brother, and forgives him. The story’s narrator is a black algebra teacher, whose name is never revealed, who is living in Harlem, a New York City neighborhood. In the beginning of the story the narrator reads about his brother, Sonny, being busted with heroin in the newspaper.
The book starts off with a boy named Russell banks moving next to a boy named Joey banks. Russell is a normal boy with a normal family however, Joey has an abusive dad due to this constant trouble making followed with two sisters that he doesn't get along with very well. Russell and Joey soon become friends and quickly start getting into mischief together. Through this behavior Russell and Joey start to shape the theme of the story.
Samuel Hawkins was a free black man, but his wife Emeline was a slave at a nearby plantation. All of their children were spread throughout the valley, but they were allowed to live with each other. When one of the owners died, the two eldest son’s were sent to another relative. The family was spread out now and Samuel just wanted his family back together again. So, he decided to reach out to Garrett to help plan their getaway.
