Buddhism is a very clear religion of what they believe in and what they stand for. They mainly believe in ‘do to others what you wish to be done to you’ in simpler terms. They do have many rules to obey by, but they are not hard rules to stick to. They have 5 Percepts, which are;
1. Do not kill
2. Do not steal
3. Do not lie
4. Do not misuse sex
5. Do not consume alcohol or dugs.
Those who are preparing for a monastic life usually are given the option to avoid the additional five activities.
6. Taking untimely meals
7. Dancing, singing, music, watching grotesque mime
8. Use of garlands, perfumes and personal adornment
9. Use of high seats
10. Accepting gold and silver.
Buddhists believe in everyone being equal to one another, reincarnation and nirvana. Reincarnation isn’t always someone coming back, more as in a withering leaf that falls off will be replaced by another leaf eventually. And Nirvana is a state of liberation and freedom from suffering. To get to Nirvana, you must follow the 4 noble truths;

Dukkha – suffering is real and exists universally
2. Samudaya – there is a cause for suffering
3. Niradha – there is an end to all suffering
4. Magga – must follow the Eightfold Path to end suffering.
The Eightfold Path is the foundation of all Buddha’s teachings, they are what built the beliefs of what Buddhism is today. For people who follow the teachings, the Eightfold Path is the best place to start.
Prajna
– Samma ditthi – right understanding of 4 Noble Truths
– Samma sankappa – right thinking, following the right path in life
Sila
- Samma vaca – right to speech, no lying, criticism, condemning, gossip, harsh language
- Samma kammanta – right conduct by following the Five Percepts
- Samma ajiva – right livehood, support yourself, without harming others.
