Buffy the Vampire slayer's "Hush" is one of the show's most recognizable episode. "Hush" was the only episode from the TV show series that received an Emmy nomination for Best Writing. The creator and writer of the show, Joss Whedon, was an English major in college. It is no surprise that the creator incorporated some literary devices throughout the show. He revealed that the show is a big metaphor for the personal problems that one faces on a day-to-day basis. The episode goes deeper into the concept, especially "Hush". The episode deals with a group called "The Gentlemen", this group arrives to Sunnydale and steal everyone's voices. One of the secrets being that both Buffy and Riley are currently in secrets groups that fight against evil beings in the town of Sunnydale, CA. A few minutes into the episode, Buffy and Riley are conversating. However, this conversation ends in awkwardness as they can seem to know what to say, " BUFFY- So I'll.. RILEY- I guess I won't see you till.. BUFFY- Yeah...". This shows that Buffy and Riley have problems with talking to each other about the feelings they have towards each other. They seemed to just ramble and not allow each other to truly express themselves. Later on Buffy has a quick chat with Willow. Riley then admits that she gets nervous and just babbles every time she talks to him. Buffy also wishes she could tell Riley her big secret. During her conversation with willow she admits it, "But with Riley..I wish I could just come clean". The fact that she can't tell Riley that she is indeed a slayer seems to be holding her back from being open with him about her feelings. Buffy is worried of Riley would react about her secret so in her eyes it is best for her to just keep the secrets to herself until the right moment arrives. Similar to Buffy, Riley also wants to express his feelings and tell Buffy his secret. While talking to his friend, Forrest, Riley confesses " I know I can't. But it bugs me this time". Tara is not able to express what her real thoughts are to Willow. Both Tara and Willow want to be real Witches, this leads them to join the "wicca" group at their school. During the meeting Willow points out that she wants to do real witchcraft, Tara seems to want to agree with her but backs out and does not say word. After "The Gentlemen" arrive and begin to murder people Tara starts to look for spells that can solve the problem. She then decides to look for Willow, she goes out to find her and has several encounters with "The Gentlemen". When Tara and Willow are finally together as they are hiding from "The Gentlemen" Willow tries to use her powers alone but fails and gives up. Tara then grabs her hands and together they move the machine to cover the door. This action that Tara took seems to give Willow some encouragement. This reassures her that she is really not alone. Later on, Tara and Willow have a conversation after getting their voices back. Throughout their conversation Tara gives Willow words of encouragement. Tara tells Willow that Willow is indeed a powerful witch and that she now wishes to work with her. The events that happened created a stronger connection and just an overall bond between the two of them, proving that them showing what they feel is stronger than what they said
