It is the memories and experience that make up most of your characteristic. However, that did not seem like the case for Anders. In fact, his character is the complete opposite of what you would expect. The most significant part of your life you cherish could mean nothing to him. Is it the unbearable fact that he has no feelings? Troubled relationship? Abused? In “ Bullet in the Brain” by Tobias Wolff, we see the ultimate shift from someone so innocent morph into a whole new person. Sometimes a little misunderstanding can drift your path off clarity, which is why people should take the time to stop and assess a situation before jumping to conclusions.

Due to Ander’s nature of being so critical, he got himself killed. I thought that after this moment, the narrator would introduce the falling action in the plot. Naturally that is to be expected, instead, he flooded the rest of the conclusion with multiple insignificant-seeming memories. I felt empty-handed not getting the full story of what happened to him. It was not satisfying for me to read to the end just to unravel his one memory of a baseball field-- which seemed so random and trivial. People don’t have the power of controlling time, time that seems to pass by in an instant. Consequently, this is the reason why people are often misconceived-- they make swift,simple conclusions. In “Bullet in the Brain”, we see how dramatically readers can judge Anders at a first glance. We are drawn into the simpler conclusion: Anders is a cold-hearted individual who is always critical. Conversely, there is a complexity to everything. Diving into the information, we find that Anders was corrupted by the bad crowd in society.
