In this paper, I am going to discuss and explain my opinions on why company Q is or is not socially responsible. Company Q recently closed a couple of stores in high crime areas. Company Q also started offering very limited health conscious and organic products. The local food bank has contacted Company Q requesting day old food for donations. Company Q has declined the donation request due to possible fraud by its employees and has started throwing the food away.

C. Ethical Lens Inventory (ELI) – attached with submission of Task 1 D1. Preferred Ethical Lens After completing the ELI exercise, the report indicated that my preferred lens is Results Lens and Reputation Lens. According to my report, I listen to my intuition (sensibility) to determine the greatest good for each individual (autonomy) and the character traits and virtues that will best serve the community (equality). The report captures accurately my ethical lens. I do listen to my intuition but it does not play the only role in my decisions.

Hacking in general is both illegal and unethical. By attempting to expose the MBTA of their susceptibility of the fare card, the students would have placed the MBTA in a position to lose profit. Thus, the students’ actions become illegal because of the possible decrease in their profit and hurting the overall system. MBTA could argue that the MIT students are in violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA) which would make their actions illegal.
The implementation and education of the ethical decision-making model promote moral awareness and company values that can mitigate ethical dilemmas to an extent. The aftermath was devastating for Wells Fargo not just economically but for its image. The corporation can introduce this model in training courses for new hires and current employees. Also ensuring management comprehends the prominence of ethical decisions and are aware that they are the wheels of the car, therefore, lead by example. If the corporation initially had prioritized ethical values and decision-making evaluations at every level of the business, this scandal could have been prevented at least its magnitude.

Utilitarianism is a teleological ethical theory based on the idea that an action is moral if it causes the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest number of people. The theory is concerned with predicted consequences or outcomes of a situation rather than focusing on what is done to get to the outcome. There are many forms of utilitarianism, having been introduced by Jeremy Bentham (act utilitarianism), and later being updated by scholars such as J.S. Mill (rule utilitarianism) and Peter Singer (preference utilitarianism). When referring to issues of business ethics, utilitarianism can allow companies to decide what to do in a given situation based on a simple calculation. Many people would agree that this idea of promoting goodness

According to research by Mayer, Aquino, Greenbaum, and Kuenzi (2012), moral leaders will often practice appropriate business ethics. In turn, the leader establishes similar positive ethical attribute in all fronts of their organization, since the employees and stakeholders are prompted to follow suit. This is in line with Terris’ (2005) opinion in the book Ethics at Work. Terris commends the Lockheed-Martin program for institutionalizing functioning work ethics at the administrative level (Terris, 2005, p. 47). Furthermore, according LRN research conducted in the United States, most of the full-time workers preferred working in an ethical company, suggesting the importance of leaders and stakeholders’ ethical behavior in the organization (Dubrin, 2010).
However, as we discussed in class, there are so many situations where ethical decision-making occurs, and there are so many factors that influence why we do what we do. Because we work with a multitude people with interesting and diverse lives and backgrounds, and because we come in with our own baggage and experiences that influence how we act and react, we make split-second decisions all the time that can have profound effects on our work and our consumers. Having so many opportunities to look at my own actions, this particular assignment has been so rewarding and interesting for me. This is the first time in any of my assignments where I have been forced to look at how ethics is involved in our
