Butlers Chocolate company was founded my Marion Butler in Dublin’s Lad Lane in 1932, who named her chocolates “Chez Nous Chocolates". The business was established in the heart of Georgian Dublin. She continued to make her delicious handmade chocolates until 1959. The company then changed hands and was bought by Seamus Sorenson. In 1978, the next generation of the Sorenson family took over the company and still run it to this day. The company name was then changed to Butlers in memory of Marion Butler in 1984. Butlers chocolates have been in business the last 83 years. This is another Irish Chocolate company owned by Jim and Mary Healy. They set the company up in 2001 in Baltinglass, County Wicklow when they moved to Ruth, County Carlow in 2009. The Chocolate Garden company began making waffles and then in 2005 began making chocolates and biscuits. They also sell hot beverages the same as Butlers and they also have a visitor experience, where the customers learn about chocolate making. Unlike Butlers, The Chocolate Garden have a playground for the children. The company cater for all age groups from school tours, hen parties and retirement groups. They sell similar products to Butlers such as, ice cream, chocolates, gifts and also cakes which can be purchased either instore, online or from retailers. Hampers and gifts sets are also available to consumers.
The Chocolate Garden employ only 18 people at their centre in Carlow. The business has two brands, "Chocolate Garden of Ireland" and "Tipperary Ice Cream". They sell to both Ireland and abroad.
