High-Speed Railway Versus California’s Economy
“They're good for the environment, they are fun to ride, and you zip right past all the planet-killing motorists sitting in traffic,” (LA Times). They are high-speed railways (HSR), a transportation system that can connect the mega-regions of states to help us save time, energy, and money. For too many years, HSRs have played a significant roll in economic and social development for many nations. “HSR is currently in operation in more than 20 countries (including the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan). According to Ted Rall, this system may not be completed until after our children are middle-aged, but we owe it to our grandchildren to get this right (2014). Moreover, California’s population and demand of traveling is increasing, so starting construction on a high-speed railway in California as soon as possible is very significant for California’s economy. It will help to cut the amount of car accidents and traffic on the road significantly. One issue that the government needs to contemplate when they start construction on the high-speed system is investing heavily to improve speed and safety to reduce accident on railway. Thus, upgrading the technology with regards to safety and efficiency of railways across the U.S is very significant. For California, the question should not be whether high-speed rail is the right choice for the state, but the question should be how to build a quality and safe high-speed railway system for the
