The Call of The wild is a novel by Jack London which describes the life of Buck, a big 140-pound dog that lived in the Santa-Clara Valley with Judge Miller before he was kidnapped and taken to be a sled dog in the Yukon to transport mail. His first mail run was with Francois and Perrault where he learned “the law of club and fang”. The second owners were just a mail team. Charles, Hal and Mercedes bought Buck and his team for his third owner to go to the Yukon to find gold, but they didn’t know to pack light or get ready quickly. John Thornton’s team was the last team Buck was with before he was freed. When Buck lived with Judge Miller, he was a 140 pound shaggy tidewater dog who was free to do whatever he wanted. Buck liked to chaperone the grandkids of Judge Miller and go swimming with them on hot days. Since Buck was so big and protective, he became the new ruler of the domain after his dad died. He was trustworthy and trusted the people that worked for the Judge because of their friendly faces and because Buck actually knew them. Since it was Bucks first snow, he did not know where to sleep until he stepped on top of another dog that was laying in a hole in the snow, so Buck instantly knew how to sleep in the snow because he learns from example. The other dogs of the team taught Buck how to pull a sled and steal food. Spitz was the leader of the pack at the time, and Buck did not like how Spitz did his job because Spitz was cruel and treated and punished the other dogs unfairly. One night, the pack of dogs saw a rabbit and went chasing after it. Spitz and Buck both knew that it was time to fight to the death.
