Music and Cameron Crowe “These songs aren’t just convenient; he doesn’t put them in the film just because they might be a hit. The lyrics may be as important to Cameron as the words he’s writing for the actors,” (Steven Baker). In order to understand the characters in a Cameron Crowe film you have to listen; not to the words they’re saying, but to the music. In each of the eight feature films the critically acclaimed director has tackled, music is used to establish what a character is feeling and to instill emotions in the viewers. To really understand Cameron Crowe’s love of music one must look at his early life as a teenage reporter for Rolling Stone. At the age of 16 Crowe’s passion for music led him to a career in musical journalism after high school. Crowe traveled and wrote about bands such as The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and more big acts of the time.
If Cameron Crowe’s story sounds familiar it’s in large part due to the fact that Crowe used it as the basis for his semi-autobiographical film Almost Famous. The film takes place in 1973 and revolves around William Miller, a 15-year old who is hired by Rolling Stone as a music …show more content…

Early in the film Sofia and David spend a night together and Peter Gabriel’s “Solsbury Hill” plays as the two fall in love with one another. At the end of the scene when David is leaving however an upbeat sounding rock song plays. When one listens to the song they may think it’s an upbeat ending to a night well spent between the characters, in actuality the song is called “The Last Goodbye.” This subtle inclusion of the song fits perfectly with the next scene in which David’s former lover, Julianna, crashes her car with David sending him into a coma. This is the last goodbye for Sofia and David for their lives will both be changed forever after the car
