Cameroon is located in Central Africa, bordering west of Nigeria and northeast of Chad. (1)With a population of 21.7 million people, Cameroon is slightly larger than the state of California and consists of a hot, humid climate with an immense amount of rainfall. Out of the total population, only 5% of these people are active on the internet. (2)The United States has a population of roughly 318.8 million and 87% of these people are active on the internet. (3)Cameroon is led by a Republic government, where the executive branch holds majority of the power. (4) Cameroon is known for its excellent vacation destinations.
Freedom of speech is a right guaranteed to Cameroonians in their constitution, although it is not always enforced.

The rules and regulations regarding intellectual property vary from country to country. Cameroon has IP rights under an organization known as, The African Intellectual Property Organization or the French acronym OAPI, which was established in March 1977. (6) This organization is in charge of the intellectual property rights for several neighboring countries to Cameroon, and its major objective is to protect these rights for all the people who live there. Cameroon has done very little to enhance their IP rights throughout the years and their process needs to change. The people understand that they lack control of the rights they are given and are in the process of protesting. A group called the Cameroon Civil Society Art Music, or known by its French acronym SOCAM, are trying to enforce the use of Copyright related laws to protect their creativity within their culture. (6) This is helping the Country because people are starting to realize the importance of Intellectual Property rights as their country continues to grow. Cameroon is just starting to understand the use of Intellectual Property when the United States has been experiencing this since the 1700’s. This exemplifies how the New World has not affected the entire world we live in yet.
