Can Music Be a Bad Influence on Kids & Teens? I believe it can and does. Music has the ability to be a major influence on children and young adults. Music does not necessarily pose problems for kids and teenagers who live a balanced and healthy lifestyle because they do not only have music influencing them, whereas kids and teens that have a, not so privileged life may turn to music as a release from the hardships they are facing at the time. In situations like this, the child may let the music affect them in an adverse way.
Music has been proven to help people who are sad by cheering them up, or calm them down when they are stressed. If this is the case, is it that far of a stretch to say that music can also have negative effects on people? In controversial discussions over the past decade, there has been a lot of ideas surrounding this, and a decent amount of proof, but at the same time it has still alluded us what all music can do to kids. Kids nowadays are a lot more influential when it comes to media then they used to be. The average child listens to more than 2 1/2 hours of music daily and has more access to it now more than ever. When we think about how music was in the 60’s through the 90’s, it had a simple and soulful sound to it. It was always there when we needed it. Whether we needed to pump up the party or serenade our loved one, it was there. Now, what we have is music that instills violence and disrespect towards one another in our youth.
