Canada is one of the 43 countries in the world that offers universal healthcare. Having universal healthcare coverage gives all people access to secure quality health services without financial hardship. Canada granted universal healthcare to its citizens in 1966, this is known as the Medicare act. The idea of universal healthcare was first brought to the attention of the Canadian government during the 1930s, in this time Canada had suffered from the great depression. The people were struggling to pay their medical bills due to the money crisis of the time. During this time, the Canadian government desired to help its citizens but was unable to due to a lack of funding. The Canadian healthcare boosts up Canadian immigration, this is due to immigrants seeking jobs in the healthcare industry. This allows a clear opportunity for immigrants to play a key role in ensuring there are enough people working in the health care sector. Healthcare is the government’s top priority as 30 to 40 percent of money is spent of the sector. Healthcare is widely regarded as one of the most important parts of a country’s development. When efficient it improves the general physical, mental, and social well-being of people which contributes to a country's economy, development, and industrialization. A good healthcare also improves the life expectancy and general happiness of society. The Medicare is a complicated system, nevertheless it has had a significant impact on Canada as a country and has had a substantial influence on Canadian
