The Canadian Model of Performance and Engagement (CMOP-E) is a client-centered practice that looks at empowering individuals in the occupations that they perform and engage in through a dynamic interaction of person, environment, and occupation (PEO) (Townsend & Polatajko 2007). The CMOP-E is a framework that is based on the patient's values therefore the initial steps are vital to build strong rapport, establish trust and create a collaborative atmosphere where the patient- Jim, feels comfortable (Townsend & Polatajko 2007). Although MOHO puts emphasizes on his volitional attributes, CMOP-E focuses on the enabling environment to engage in an occupation (Townsend & Polatajko 2007). The COMP is a great screening tool that measures outcome by having Jim complete a short semi-structured interview where he would reflect on his self-perception in occupational performance and satisfaction in self-care, productivity, and leisure (Wong & Fisher, 2015). The beauty of COMP is that it can be retested and it meets the needs of the client through therapist-client collaboration. Pan et al. (2003) applied COMP to 141 participants with psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia being one of them) and identified that the common problem of occupational performance were in self-care, work, leisure, social, and other activities. Jim seems to be in denial of his issues when he states that he finds his relationship with his mother ‘normal’ and does not seem to be concerned of his self-care by wearing clothes too small and having unbrushed hair. Perhaps COMP would be the best tool to use for Jim as it would create a strong therapeutic relationship between therapist and client which actively accentuates therapeutic process between both parties allowing Jim to be more aware of the true reality (Wong & Fisher, 2015). Once the performance concerns have been identified, the collaboration of CPPF and CMCE would follow next. The collaborative goal setting in CPPF would blend pleasure and productivity to ensure Jim has a positive experience to reinforce competence (Pierce, 2000).
