Proposal Question: Does the composition of materials in candles effect the rate of burning and do colourants have an effect?
Hypothesis: If a white candle and a coloured candle are burned at the same time for an hour, then the white candle will burn faster because of the chemicals.
Procedures:
1. Get 2 candles of the same size and brand.
2. One candle will be red and the other will be white.
3. Next you will put them into two heat/fire safe containers.
4. Then start to burn them.
5. Keep them both at the same temperature.
6. They will be burnt under a flame and they will be …show more content…

2 different coloured candles.
2. Fire source
3. Ruler
Variables:
Independent: The colour of the candle
Dependent: The rate in which burns
Controlled: Size and brand of candle.
Analysis: In this experiment, the candles were burned at the same time.
Background info: A candle is a block of wax with a wick in the middle of the candle. Candles give of light and a little bit of heat. It is also used as a method of keeping time. Wax is a block of chemical compounds mixed together to make the wax. There are two different kinds of wax, Paraffin wax and Beeswax. A wick is usually made of braided cotton, used to burn a candle or an oil lamp. The wick of the candle influences the burning of the candle.
Data: The coloured candle burned slower than the white candle. The white candle burned faster because it has chemical materials in it.
Result: The white candle burned slower than the coloured candle. The candles was 5.0cm before I burn it. One hour later,
