Introduction The supervisor or leader selected in this case is Captain Richard Phillips played by actor Tom Hanks. The movie “Captain Phillips” is an Oscar nominated film which is a replica of actual events that happened in April 2009, where Maersk Alabama which is the name of a cargo ship that was hijacked from the SE Africa coast by four pirates from Somali (Majacakarun, 2014). Captain Richard Phillips’ story represents an ordeal that is both traumatic and fascinating, and the performances of the actors involved makes the movie adaptation very appealing (Rosen, 2013). Great leaders pay close attention to the feelings of other people which makes them approach and interpret different scenarios with calm with the intention of seeing the bigger picture. This is witnessed in the film when Captain Phillips and his ship enter a region known to be hostile and having piracy activities, he immediately fears the worst when he sees two skiffs moving towards the Maersk Alabama. With immediate action he reports about the current situation to the USS Bainbridge and sends out a command to his crewmembers to resist the pirates as much as possible. With his command, it is quite evident that the ship’s crew is very prepared for emergency events and they also show great teamwork by coordinating very well. From this scene I am of the opinion that listening and attempting the suggestion given by Quinn of escaping after the first failed attack would have been the right move and would have saved the crew and Captain from experiencing the torment and horrendous experience they went through in the hands of the Somali pirates. This also would have avoided the situation where Captain Phillips was taken as a hostage by the
