Juliet Capulet Blame Essay Without Juliet and her impulsive love for Romeo, the events of the story could have taken a different path with many lives being spared in the process, including her own. In William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the female protagonist is a 13-year-old girl named Juliet Capulet. The obstinate young girl made choices that caused a series of events, which eventually led to tragedy. If it was not for Juliet’s stubbornness, her family conflicts, and her decision to continue her plan to be with Romeo, the tragic deaths of the couple would not have occurred. No matter what family he is from, he will always be her lover. During the balcony scene when Juliet declares how much she loves a Montague, she proclaims, “O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? / Deny thy father and refuse thy name. / Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, / And I’ll no longer be a Capulet /” (2,2,33-36). The daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet wants Romeo to abandon his name of Montague. If he does not do it, she will abandon her own name due to her infatuation with him. Juliet does not care about her family and is willing to give them up for a man she met a few hours ago. Following Romeo’s murder of Tybalt, Lady Capulet calls him a villain, but her daughter says, “Villain and he be many miles asunder. / God pardon him! I do, with all my heart, / And yet no man like he doth grieve my heart/” (3,5,81,83). Romeo’s lover has already forgiven him for murdering her cousin. To her family, he is just an evil Montague who is their enemy. Lady Capulet believes Juliet will be happier if she marries County Paris because she believes Juliet is grieving Tybalt’s death, not Romeo’s banishment.
