Carmel High School English II Mr. Nathan Wheatley March 3, 2023 Becoming a Certified Medical Assistant Checking vitals, administering treatments, and working in a lab are all activities you would do if you would become a Certified Medical Assistant ( Coursera, 2022). Certified Medical Assistants are medical assistants who have completed a course of training and met the requirements to earn a certification. Becoming a Certified Medical Assistant would also consist of working with doctors and nurses and assisting the provider in various clinical and patient procedures. This role also involves collecting and documenting patient history information, taking vitals, and preparing patients for a variety of exams by a provider (Premier Nursing Academy, 2023). Certified medical assistants can also be on the administrative side of things. Verifying insurance coverage, processing payments, and organizing patient records would all be something they would do. “A typical day on the job for me would consist of signing off on medication, drawing different labs, working with doctors, and tending to patients' medical needs” ( S. Moodie, personal communication, February 13, 2023). Certified Medical Assistants can work 5 days a week 8 hours at a time or in some cases 3 days a week 12 hours at a time (Registered Nursing, 2021). The hours and the days you work will depend on if you signed a contract, what state you are in, and the specific nursing job.
