Life is more than simply your career goals. It’s important to have career goals and have a drive to achieve greatness through your work. However, it’s much more to leave a legacy and an impact that you desire.

Since my sophomore year of high school, I have wanted to work in business. My favorite high school organization, DECA, taught me the basics of business and I have been striving to learn more ever since. I currently am an accounting and finance major at Purdue. My ultimate goal in this field of work is to achieve a CPA license. A CPA license stands for Certified Public Accountant. With this, you can be a member of an officially accredited professional body of accountants. Life consists of much more important things, such as your legacy and your impact on the world. My main foundation for leaving a proper impact on the world are my morals. According to Merriam Webster, a moral is “of or relating to principles of right and wrong in behavior “. Each individual person, I believe, can set morals for themselves and they can vary from person to person. Many of my morals are guided by my religious beliefs and my life experiences. These can be applied to family, friends, or your career goals. One of my favorite quotes about morals comes from former first lady Michelle Obama. She said, “I have learned that as long as I hold fast to my beliefs and values - and follow my own moral compass - then the only expectations I need to live up to are my own.” This speaks to me because no matter where life guides me, as long as I consistently apply my morals, my life expectations will be set by myself.
