Carefor’s humble beginnings started in 1897 with two nurses, single-handedly covering a district in Ottawa using only a horse and buggy. Today, Carefor has now grown into a non-profit charitable leader in home health care and community support services throughout Eastern Ontario. Provincial government funding only covers basic operating and equipment costs, but to continue to offer the outstanding care you deserve, we must reach out to the community for support.
We have a highly skilled healthcare team that ensure our clients receive the care they expect and deserve. However, to keep pace with the ever changing developments in healthcare, our staff requires ongoing education and training. Carefor invests $500,000 annually in training for staff and volunteers yet we still rely on the support from generous donors to be able to offer an additional 12 educational bursaries to further assist our team with the costs associated with enhancing their skills and knowledge.
Carefor is also dedicated to supporting those living with dementia, their caregivers and families. Locally, Carefor operates three adult day programs specializing in dementia care and a 24-hour respite home, Guest House, where people living with dementia can stay for up to 90 days a year, giving families a break from the stresses of

These essential subsidies ensure no family is turned away from one of our adult day programs or our respite facility due to their financial situation. The subsidies can be the difference between a senior staying home, feeling isolated to a socially active and stimulated senior that is better connected to family and peers.
Carefor recently piloted a new program, called The Reminiscence Project at our Carling Adult Day Program. Reminiscence creates opportunities for people living with dementia to express themselves and to connect with others through sharing of life stories and past experiences. This personalized program enables families to look beyond the dementia, to see the whole person and reconnect with their loved one. Because the community understood the significance of this program, this year we were able to continue the Reminiscence project at the Carling Adult Day program and expand it to a second adult day program.
