As I grow older and more mature, one thing I have not let go is my childlike mesmerization in computers. Although I currently understand each individual piece of the computer, the sum of its parts is truly something magical. What goes on in this mysterious box when I do my work? How does pressing “G” on my keyboard create the letter “G” on my screen? How does the screen turn on at all? My awe in the world of computers is a characteristic of mine that I will carry to the grave. Well over a decade ago, I first laid eyes on my dad’s old, beige, Dell computer: an experience that is forever burned into my memory and ignited my passion for computers. My strong fondness of computer engineering has led me on a lifelong journey leading up to today, when I apply to Carnegie Mellon University to help further understand what goes on in this mysterious box. …show more content…

I was raised to believe I am always to challenge myself in any way, shape, or form. In both elementary and high school, I have always focused on becoming the best as I can possibly be. As I transition from high school to college, I seek a place where I can smoothly transfer my competitive attitude. From what I researched on Carnegie Mellon, I discovered that the College of Engineering’s curriculum is research intensive and driven by a remarkably experienced faculty. If I want to grow a deeper understanding of computers, I need to have an intense program taught by veterans of engineering; otherwise, my “mysterious box” will still be known as the “mysterious box” even after I graduate.
