Coastal Carolina University offers 74 potential majors to chose from (Academic Programs 2017). Some of these programs are even dual enrollment programs with HGTC. With such a wide variety of programs, finding something that you’re interested in can be easy! Personally, I am interested in the body and medicine. Earning a degree in biology at Coastal Carolina University will help me get a job to eventually become a physician assistant. I have always been a very goal driven and determined person. When I want something or set a goal to get or do something, I make sure that I achieve that. A couple personal goals I have include growing as a person, becoming happier, and being more positive. For example, to be a nurse, Ferguson’s Career Guidance Center (2017) states that you must “promote health, prevent disease and help patients cope with illness.” The same site also says that to be a doctor, you need to be able to “help patients attain and maintain good health.” Many skills that you need to go into the medical field with a biology degree are the same. I think that you also need to be able to empathize with people, be able to think quickly and rationally, and be a down to earth person. First, it seems that this career will rise in the future. It is shown that it will rise 37% in the next 10 years (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 2017). This is good because you want to make sure that you get a career in a growing field, not a declining one. Some disadvantages of going into this field may be the workload, always being around and talking to people (depending on the kind of person you are), and the hours you may have to put in. Advantages of this career may include the high pay, potentially flexible hours, and nationwide need for them.
