A Chauvin woman who was stabbed to death at a Grand Isle beach Sunday was a generous woman who loved photography and gardening, and did everything she could for her three kids despite being an amputee, her sister-in-law said. Jennifer Dozier was at the beach near Cypress Lane around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when a fight broke out between her and her boyfriend of nearly two years, Randy Paul Marcel, of Pine Street in Chauvin, police said. The fight, which witnesses say started over drugs or cigarettes, culminated in Dozier, 34, being stabbed the multiple times in the neck and torso, said Glen Boyd, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office public information officer. Marcel left Dozier's 2-year-old son, Gabriel, with his mother's body and left the scene, police said.

Mary Jane Patterson Mary Jane Patterson was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her parents brought and their family to Oberlin, Ohio to find an education for their children. In 1835, Oberlin College admitted its first black student and eventually became the country’s first coed institution of higher education. It was also the first college in the country to grant women undergraduate degrees. Mary Jane Patterson studied for a year in the college’s Prepatory Department and she was the first African-American women to earn a Bachelor’s degree.

Hana Williams was just 13 years old when she died. The girl was found dead in her backyard on May 12, naked and wrapped in a sheet.

Caesar has also been named as one of those who will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2016. In addition to nearly 60 years of music and 40 albums, Caesar also pastors the 1,500-member Mount Calvary Word of Faith Church in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Susan B. Anthony (Susan Brownell Anthony) Susan B. Anthony was a prominent feminist author who started the movement of women’s suffrage and she was also the president of the National American Women Suffrage Association. Anthony was in favor of abolitionism as she was a fierce activist in the anti-slavery movement before the civil war. Susan Anthony was born on February 15, 1820, in Adams, Massachusetts, and before becoming a famous feminist figure, she worked as a teacher. Anthony grew up in a Quaker family that made her spend her time working on social causes. And her father was an owner of a local cotton mill.
Although some people might argue that Shirley Chisholm does not demonstrate leadership qualities, a closer examination proves that the former congresswoman was a strong leader because of her independence, perseverance,and willingness to take risks. Shirley Chisholm is a great leader because she blazed a trail by being the first African American Congresswoman. For example, “Chisholm indulged her maverick nature in a spectacular gesture. She became the first black woman to run for president” (Morin pg1).This proves that she was the first black individual in her field to run for president so this makes her a trailblazer because all leaders should possess this for the reason that no leader can lead from behind.
The temperance movement strived to limit or completely abstain from alcohol in the 1800s. One of the organizations that helped was the Woman Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). The second president of the national of the WCTU Frances Willard helped the union gain recognition nationally at first, and then later, international traction. Willard's actions would forever shape the temperance union and women's suffrage around the world. In 1874, Willard left her job as an educator to become part of the WCTU.
Miss Western Days is much more than a title, crown, and sash. During this past year, I have gained so many incredible experiences, memories, and friendships. Through representing our beautiful town of Elgin at various parades and events, I have found myself more involved in the community than ever before.
