Barton attended two years at SW Texas Jr. College in Uvalde and three years at Cisco Jr. College. He has a two-year associate’s degree. He doesn’t have any licenses or certifications in construction. The program specifically helps former gang members be active members in society. The goal of the chief executive of the program, Mark Culliton, was to get the disruptive members in the community to transform their lives in order to live positive ones. This program does not only include juveniles, but also adults who unfortunately were gang members in their youth. These adults got involved with gangs, sold drugs, and dropped out of school.
A FBI report stated, “An estimated 1.4 million people are active in more than 33,000 street, prison and outlaw motorcycle gangs across the country.” In book, “If I Grow Up” written by Todd Strasser discusses that life in the projects is not easy. DeShawn, a young boy who lived in the projects with his gramma and his sister Nia, wanted to get out of the projects, but he thought there was no way out. So after DeShawn started to see that there was no hope for him he decided that there was no hope and made a decision that would forever affect his life, he decided to join the gang. For then on he made poor decisions that caused him to be put in jail.
I am making this appeal in response to the sanction that is imposed on me in reference to the case #3788. The hearing panel found me guilty on the charge of complicity in the course of construction scheduling COSC 603:299 and awarded me a grade of F* in the course COSC 603:699 Construction Scheduling for which I was enrolled in Spring 2015 semester. The basis of my appeal is that the sanction on me is not commensurate to the violation. I would like to provide the following rationale for my defense.
I researched Greenville’s availability of local community resources/protective factors for adolescents and chose to advocate towards building a YMCA in this area. The YMCA provides equal and easy access to its members (F.3). I found that this organization have core values and programs (prevention and treatment) which promotes favorable human growth and development as well as substance abuse prevention through advocacy and education (C.1., C.10.). This non-profit organization offers various community activities, education, and service work for both members and non-member (D.4.). The project itself demonstrated my support for individual, public and government relations, and equity among all.

The components for a successful gang intervention program are, fudamental changes in the way schools operate, job skills development for youths and young adults accompianated by improvements in the labor market, assistance to families, changes in the way the criminal justice system-particularly policing, and finally the intervention and control of knwon gang members.
