Long Beach, named one of the top-ten most dog-friendly cities in the U.S. by NBC News,

contains a large population of individuals and families who own dogs or are interested in owning

dogs in the future (Robins, 2007). The city hosts many pet-related events, including Easter and

Halloween pet parades in Belmont Shore, as well as an annual “Most Beautiful Bulldog”

competition. With a warm climate and a policy that allows restaurants with outdoor dining service

to accommodate pet dogs, Long Beach also contains the only off-leash dog beach in the county of

Los Angeles, which can be found packed full of pups every day of the week (LongBeach.gov,

2012).
