Armed and Dangerous?
Still to this day, many black men are being beaten or killed because of their skin color. They are targeted by the police and discriminated. They are far more prone to a brutality of a black man from police officer than any other race. It’s absolutely terrible and there may not be a way to stop it. Yet, two authors Cassandra Chaney and Ray V. Robertson has decided to write a scholar article which examines this issue. They seem to target the audience that are misinformed of how black men are easily brutalized by the police. Chaney and Robertson tend to give plenty of information how what exactly is happening with the development of all these black men being wrongfully killed. In order for the two authors to successfully use pathos, they decided to use the actual quotes from the men that were brutally murdered. Some of the quotes being the black men’s final words. ““Please don’t let me die” – 16-year old Kimani Gray’s last words on March 9, 2013. The aforementioned five words were the last ones uttered by a young unarmed Black male that died at the hands of police.” By using a quote like this, the audience can feel sympathy for the man that was killed. The way that the two authors describe it with such great word play and imagery manages to pull the audiences in to want to read more. Making them feel a certain way against police officers. The audience could be beginning to now understand that our police officers are killing what they are supposed to protect. The thought that there is discrimination against these black men are starting to formulate in their heads. And to further add fuel to the fire, Chaney and Robertson explain of “how the murder of unarmed Blacks by members of law enforcement is a painful reminder that Black men and women in America are suspicious, or guilty, until proven innocent.” This is more striking and surprising to the non-black audience because most are not aware of this claim prior to the
