The Sierra Club is a nonprofit environmental organization. It was founded in 1892 by John Muir. The Club’s mission statement is, To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives. (Sierra Club, n.d.-a) The Club promotes environment preservation by encouraging green energy, mitigating global warming, and opposing the use of fossil fuels.
Catholic’s in Maryland would be the smallest group throughout the colonies. There was only about 3,000 Catholics out of 25,000 people in Maryland. The Catholic religion would exercise their faith a lot in Maryland. The Catholics in Maryland would not listen or follow the Liberty of Conscience statement, so they would just pretend that they accepted it and would move on. The Catholic Church and Latin America The Catholic Church was a great power ruling many civilizations in Europe during the period between 1492 and 1830. Therefore, the role of the Catholic Church was of utmost importance to the colonization and development of Latin America as it was a great force in Spain and Portugal. Despite the peaceful teachings of the Church, greed and a hunger for power led them to make decisions harming Latin America and Christianity, rather than thriving it. In this paper, I will show that the Catholic Church is significantly responsible for the colonization and development of Latin America through, the Christianizing mission, the Treaty of Tordesillas, and the Spanish Inquisition.
As Roman Catholics, it is our religious duty to serve others whether those people are a part of our religious community or whether they are from any other type of community. Service is an important aspect of life for not only Catholics but also every single person in the world. By performing various acts of service in our communities, a person’s life can be greatly improved just through a simple act of kindness and love from the person’s heart. Not only can an act of service be beneficial to the person or organization that the volunteer is performing the service for, but it can also be beneficial to the person who is partaking in this act of service for another human being. No matter your age, your background, or your religious affiliation, service is a crucial part of our everyday lives and everyone should get involved in this and do a service out of the good of their hearts.
Introduction: Genetically modified organisms can be defined as organisms in which the DNA has been changed in a way that does not occur naturally by any reproduction procedure. The enviropig is just one of many organisms that they did experiments on to modify it to have specific (needed) outcomes. The reason for genetic modification is to be able to change a product or organism so that it deliver desirable traits. The enviropig was created to solve the problem of pigs not being able to absorb enough phosphorous from their diet, which then in its turn contributes to the larger factor of pollution.

The concept of environmental justice was first introduced in South Africa at the Earthlife 1992 conference (Cock 2004, p.6). Defined as the ‘fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies’ (U.S Environment Protection Agency, 2012), environmental justice aims to shift the world towards environmentally friendly development and eradicate exploitation of natural resources and indigenous communities. It has involved multiple stakeholders in areas such as environmental science, community development and planning, business entrepreneurship, social work, and environmental and social justice. Traditionally, the relationship between these stakeholders has been one of proximity, but not integration. Now there are calls for greater interdisciplinary focus and collaboration to meet the economic and societal needs of people that are environmentally more sustainable. There needs to be greater recognition among the different disciplines involved, that the link between the economy, society, and nature is intrinsically interdisciplinary. An interdisciplinary approach requires stakeholders to move beyond inflexible and traditional ways of thinking and problem-solving and embrace collaboration, creativity, innovation, and novel insights and perspectives.
Environmental ethics refers to the relationship that humans share with the natural world (Buzzle, 2011), it involves people extending ethics to the natural environment through the exercise of self-discipline (Nash, 1989). Herein the essay will give examples of anthropocentrism and non-anthropocentrism as forms of environmental ethics, criticizing anthropocentrism in contrast with a defence of non- anthropocentrism precedents. The reading assignments for this week has been very educative about the environment and making it a better place for living. Review of Literature Environmental issues began to be discussed and debated only towards the end of the 20th century. Since then significant amount of literature has been penned down raising awareness about issues of pollution, deforestation, animal rights and several others however it has failed to result in major changes, ideas or even actions to save the environment. Several species of animals have become extinct; pollution level is at an all-time high, global warming is leading to severe climate changes all across the globe but these problems do not seem to alarm the decision makers. Leydier & Martin (2013) also states that, “despite the increasing expression of concern in political and media debates about issues such as climate change, pollution and threats to biodiversity, “political ecology” (operating at the confluence of scientific developments, political engagement and ethical debates) is still trying to find its bearings” (p.7). It is quite evident that environmental issues are not treated in equivalence to political, economic, social or even religious issues.
Introduction: Our earth is the most precious gift of the universe. It is the sustenance of ‘nature’ that is the key to the development of the future of mankind. It is the duty and responsibility of each one of us to protect nature. It is here that the understanding of the ‘environment’ comes into the picture. The degradation of our environment is linked with the development process and the ignorance of people about retaining the ecological balance.
