What is a concussion? A blow to the head seems to be the known answer to many humans, however what is the reason behind the aching pains and the rough feelings? You see, there is much more to the fact of the thought to be concussion, and the answer could alter your life in many divergent ways. To start, a concussion is caused by a blow to the head. It can be a direct or an indirect blow, and caused in a variety of different actions(Broglio, Steven, et. al). Some factors are that a concussion can occur from are sports such as soccer, football, hockey, or rugby, and also just plain carelessness("Heads up! For the most part, concussions are caused in sports, but can also be created by countless of other actions that require cautionless situations(Nagy and Christopher). Can you believe that 58% of all emergency department visits in children are 8-13 years old and 46% of all concussions in children are 14-19 years old? More than 50% of high school athletes and 70% of collegiate athletes did not report concussions sustained during football. What is amazing is that 25% of the athletes believed loss of consciousness was required for the injury to be considered a concussion(Broglio, Steven, et. al). That then resulted in 63 percent of varsity soccer players having symptoms of a concussion at some point, but only about 19 percent actually knew it.
