The North and South have different thoughts on the Civil War. The Civil War started on April 12, 1861 and ended on May 9,1865 (.Gallagher, 1). This war was fought between the North and South over slavery. During this war the North was fighting to abolish slavery, in contrast the South fought to keep slavery. In analyzing the U.S Civil War there were cause and effects that lead to the conflict. The Civil war started over slavery and the south wanting to split from the union for government freedom . Slavery is when a person was owned by another person. Slaves worked on plantations or were used to help around the house. If the South succeeded at lengthening the time spent at war the people in the North would have given up its effort. The War would have been too expensive; in contrast the Union had a lot more soldiers than the Confederates (Gallagher page 1). It would have been hard for the Union to win the war , because the Union needed to force the Confederacy to give up the hope of making a new country in the South (Gallagher page 1).Yet having a harder way to win the war the north did find a way to win. Union and Confederate leaders had very different strategies to win. Next, In 1861 with Winfield Scott's so-called Anaconda Plan. the anaconda plan was a naval blockade of the Confederate littoral, a thrust down the Mississippi, and the strangulation of the South by Union land and naval forces. In contrast The Confederacy first tried to defend all of its borders, but the uselessness of such a strategy soon became apparent. After all for most of the war, Jefferson Davis and his advisers followed what often is termed a defensive-offensive strategy(.Gallagher, page 1). Jefferson Davis was the confederate president.
