Throughout the period of the Building of the Canadian Pacific Railroad there were many causes and consequences that played a part during the building of the Railroad. The timeline started in 1871, British Columbia entered Confederation with a request of a transcontinental railway connecting it to the rest of Canada. Macdonald, prime minister of Canada, began looking for investors to finance the railroad The Canadian Pacific Railroad was born. In 1872, the Pacific scandal occurred. Canada had its first election since confederation. Sir Hugh Allan gave Macdonald $350,000 for campaign funds, in exchange for the contract to build the railroad.
