Summary: The article Stormwater Runoff is about unfiltered water that can harm the earth. This water travels throughout the earth in the ground, streams, lakes, oceans, roads, parking lots, rooves, etc., picking up chemicals, pollutants, and more. This can cause a lot of harm to the earth. All of this starts with the water cycle.
An example of air pollution that has become more prominent in the last few years has been acid rain. Acid rain had increased the marginal social cost on the American people through its risks of a persons health, however, most people only realize the marginal social benefits that it represents, like the goods that are made, with the rain as their product. Title IV of the Clean Air Act is where we find the laws that regulate Acid Deposition, which occurs when sulfur and nitrogen emissions combined with other substances, are changed in the atmosphere and then dropped back on Earth in a form that is very harmful to a persons and the environments health. The Clean Water Act was put into place in order to create a system so that there aren 't too many pollutants released into the U.S. 's water supply and to make sure that the water is deemed as safe for Americans to use and drink from.
Introduction: In this task I will be researching the effect that acid rain has on the rate of plant growth. Acid rain is any type of precipitation with a high pH, with high levels of nitric acids. The reason why I had chosen this topic was because acid rain seems to have a great effect on the effect of plant growth, and plants play a very important role in our ecosystem. Acid rain is a major problem in our environment when we are not able to neutralize the acidity.
Acid Rain “Acid Rain 30 Years On.” The New York Times, The New York Times, 23 Aug. 2010, www.nytimes.com/2010/08/24/opinion/24tue4.html. More than 30 years ago a skeptic persuaded senates to perform a study to find out if they should be worrying about Acid rain. The study showed that yes they should be worrying about acid rain because it is making 3,000 lakes and streams too acidic to support aquatic life. Due to the studies the 1990 Clean Air Act was established and basically said that major power plants had to lower the amount of sulfur dioxide emitted.
Climate change is one of the most controversial public policy issues facing the world currently. While there is nearly no argument challenging the certainty of the ongoing global warming, what is fundamentally being questioned is whether climate change is anthropogenic or simply a natural, recurring phenomenon upon which human events do not cast a major impact. Science of Climate Change An evaluation of the differing views on the obtaining global warming takes off from the fundamentals of the new science of climate change. This field shelters several disciplines including chemistry, meteorology, physics, biology, oceanography, biology, and even sociology (Global Climate Change).
Gasoline and diesel are fossil fuels and aren 't infinite. Battery electricity are better, they don’t pollute and don 't burn fossil fuels. Instead of having a gas tank and having to fill it up at a gas station, these cars have batteries in their place and can be recharged with a larger charging station and needs 220 volts. The recharged batteries stay charged until the car is driven. Some people say that battery powered cars are slower, but it isn’t by much and battery powered cars think is worth slowing down a little if it means saving the planet.
But that still won’t get rid of pollution. Not everyone needs to stop doing any activities that causes pollution. But, everyone needs to at least try to reduce the amount of activities they do that cause pollution. Simple acts from using common transportation to reusing plastic bags are extremely helpful to our environment and future environment. Start acting now before it’s too late.
The topic of this research paper will cover over Ocean Acidification and the effects on marine ecosystems. Ocean acidification is the decrease in pH levels of the Earth 's oceans, due to overbearing carbon dioxide being brought by the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide is drawn by seawater, where the chemical reactions take place, which minimize the pH levels in the ocean, the carbonate levels and the important calcium carbonate which these sea creatures need. When carbon dioxide disperses in this ocean, it causes the levels of acidity to rise towards the the surface, where most shell growth in marine animals have been stopped and has created the cause of reproductive disorders in multiple fish. Part of the problem with ocean acidification is human activity.
Carbon dioxide has been increasing rapidly over the years and our oceans have been absorbing one third of the emissions overall. Oceans are said to be the largest carbon sinks in the world but the more carbon dioxide they absorb the more acidic they are becoming (2). This change in our oceans acidity will affect our planet 's global climate change and also our marine life overall. Ocean acidification is the process of our ocean taking in carbon dioxide emissions from our atmosphere and turning it into carbonic acid which leads to a lower PH level meaning higher acidity for our oceans (1)(2).
Intro: Water pollution has caused so many problems to our waterways that no one really knows how to help. Water pollution caused; dead zones, oil spills, garbage floating around, and unsafe drinking water. People disagree about water pollution because, people have found ways to improve and help out the problem that water pollution has caused around the world. Others believe that that water pollution has created situations and are in the process of figuring out solutions. Marine life habitats are getting destroyed, marine life is declining everyday, how and where the garbage is getting into the oceans, and the drinking water is becoming seriously unsafe to drink.
The term "Acid Rain" is a broad term that is used to emphasize on the fact that the rain has become acidic using certain pollutants, which may appear in different forms. For example, the dry deposition is when gases and dust particles become acidic, being able to affect a person 's health by inhaling it. On the other side, wet deposition is when it rains, polluting the trees and lakes. Acid rain is a result of two different sources; first is natural sources, such as decaying vegetation and volcanoes, and man-made sources, which basically consists of the formation of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).
As technology rapidly advances, we continue to use gases and other resources to keep this movement in motion. While technology is advancing and many people get to enjoy the perks of having a working car and large factories to make affordable purchases, this is coming at a price much steeper than most people would realize. While we continue putting these gases into the air, it continues to wreak havoc on our environment, causing our ozone to deplete, glaciers shrink, change in plant and animal ranges during migration, with longer and more intense heat waves. As climate change continues to worsen, temperatures will continue to rise, droughts will become more common and worsen, hurricanes will become more destructive, and our arctic glaciers will continue to melt.
In 2013, President Barack Obama announces the climate action plan to reduce the carbon dioxide, no detail target but instruction to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to with states and industry to develop a specific plans, it's a big push to renewable energy boosting projects on public lands in order to produce enough electricity by 2020 to power more than 6 millions homes. President Barack Obama said he would willing to work with anyone to make sure that the United States can deal with climate change in a way to promote jobs and growth. President Barack Obama's speech on climate action plan, June 25, 2013 In August 2015, the Environmental protection Agency (EPA) and President Obama established the Clean Power Plan to protect to health of children as well as a path toward a 32 percents of Carbon dioxide pollution and this plan will lead 30% more renewable energy by 2030.
Pollution from our world is the cause from all acid rain. Three things acid rains affects in neighborhoods are plants, lakes and paint on houses. Acid rain has no benefits to plants and cause plants to glow slower. According to scientist over the years they have notice growth of plants have been slower. Plants now are turning
There are many problems that threatens society and one problem in particular, air pollution is a problem that threatens everyone. Air pollution is the contamination of air with pollutants that are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment. It began to be a problem when humans discovered the uses of fire and then the amount of air pollution exponentially grew after the industrial revolution, and is still a problem even today. The largest causes of air pollution are from human activities such as burning of fossil fuels and gas emissions from manufacturing plants. There are ways that ordinary people can help contribute to prevent air pollution and or else face the dangerous consequences of polluted air.
