In the United States, nearly 2,596, 993 people lives come to an end annually. Out of those 2,596,993 people, 42,773 commit suicide. On average, there are 117 suicides that happen per day. A person dies by suicide about every 12.3 minutes in the United States. Suicide is the act of taking one 's own life on purpose. Suicide is the third leading cause of death for fifteen through forty-four year olds. Suicide can happen in different ways such as: hanging, poisoning, firearm, and suffocation. According to Psychology Today, the major factors that cause suicide or suicidal thoughts are depression, bullying, and self-hatred. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. There are many types of bullying, which include: verbal, social, physical, and cyber-bullying. All of these include name-calling, teasing, spreading of rumors, and breaking up of friendships, hitting, punching, shoving, and Internet harassment. Bullying is a very serious action that happens every single day in the United States. Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. There are many roles that kids can play. Kids can bully others, they can be bullied, or they may witness bullying. When kids are involved in bullying, they often play more than one role. Sometimes kids may both be bullied and bully others or they may witness other kids being bullied. “Bullied victims are seven to nine per cent more likely to consider suicide.”(Yale University) “Over 30,000 children stay home every day due to fear of being bullied.” (ABC News) Bullying is the cause of about 6,078 deaths in a year in the fifteen to twenty-four age range. That one solution is to get help. Getting help from someone to help you with any problem you have is the best way to solve the problem. A suicidal person may not ask for help, but that doesn 't mean that help isn 't wanted. People who take their lives don 't want to die, they just want to stop hurting, and the only way to stop the hurt is to get help. Suicide prevention starts with recognizing the warning signs and taking them seriously. If you think a friend or family member is considering suicide, you might be afraid to bring up the subject. But talking openly about suicidal thoughts and feelings can save a life. If you start to see the signs of any of the components of suicide then you should ask them, because if you don’t ask then another life will be taken
