Cedar Point History

Cedar Point is one of the best amusement parks in the world. Cedar Point opened in 1870. In 2020 Cedar Point will be 150 years old. Cedar Point is an amazing place with a lot of history and famous rides with many different awards.

With being around for many years Cedar Point has a lot of history. Cedar Point first opened in 1870. Cedar Point started coming along in 1892 when they built the Switchback Railway. The Switchback Railway was about 25 ft. tall and roughly 10 MPH. In 1899 Cedar Point started to bring in more people with their first hotel. The hotel was called Bay Shore Hotel. In 1901 Cedar Point built another hotel to bring in more people. It was called The White House. In 1902 Cedar Point started to become more what they are today

“This was Cedar Point 's Centennial year. WildCat, Bayern Kurve, Dodgem #2, Monster, Schwabinchen, Calypso and Super Himalaya open. Centennial Theatre (now the Jack Aldrich Theatre) opens. Kiddieland (Kiddy Kingdom) was opened at its present site with 14 rides and a Lost Children 's area. Sealand, a large walk-through marine exhibit, opened on the beach. Sealand had eye-level windows for guest viewing of sharks, penguins, and a variety of other aquatic animals. The aquarium was razed after the 2001 season to make room for Wicked Twister. WildCat lived in several locations until it was removed from its home on the Million Dollar Midway just prior to the opening of the 2012 season to make way for expansions to Celebration Plaza (Park History).” In 1976 the red, white, and blue Corkscrew opens. In 1978 Cedar Point tops the charts with Gemini. Gemini opened as tallest and fastest Rollercoaster in the world when it opened. In 1979 Cedar Point makes a new coaster for little kids called Jr.

Cedar Point is known for some of their famous rides. The most famous ride at Cedar Point is Millennium Force. When it opened it broke 10 world records. But there are many more rides that are famous like Top Thrill Dragster, Magnum XL 200, Maverick, Gemini, Gatekeeper, Wicked Twister, Raptor, The Cyclone, and Mean Streak. Top Thrill Dragster and Gemini both opened as the tallest and fastest in the world when they opened. Gatekeeper opened as the first one of its kind. When Maverick opens it won the award of the best new ride. Magnum XL 200 was the first Hyper Coaster to ever open and topped 200 ft. Wicked Twister is a launch coaster that spins you on both sides. Raptor was the tallest and fastest inverted coaster when it opened. The Cyclone changed the park into what it is today which its size. Mean Streak change the park forever when it opened.
