Based on the context of the Central UMC, the sermon was deeply rooted in the project goals of the preacher. It was for me very clear to understand why the preacher chose the above project goals in terms of catching the vision. One of the strengths of the sermon lied at the center of the scripture which effectively described the theme of the sermon. As long as the scripture truly is God’s revelation, the sermon may reveal God’s active presence. In this sense, the sermon signified God’s active presence of healing and restoration, and strongly empowered the congregation to celebrate how they have done led by the Holy Spirit. The preacher’s articulation of the message was very succinct enough to understand why the church existed. The congregation seemed to know the vision well through the preacher’s emphasis and repetitive delivery which had been done. Despite this, if there might be a newcomer to the church, it would be nice to unpack the meaning of the vision again. Secondly, as long as the vision of the church aims for an inclusive and intergenerational congregation, I hope to listen to the inclusive terminology in terms of who God is. If God remains in a simply a male image, it might lose the meaning of God based on “womb of life” and “source of being” in the Faith We Sing
