The book Canyons by Gary Paulsen is about the strange connection between Brennan, a present-time 14-year-old boy, and Coyote Runs, a 14-year-old Apache boy. He is very excited to go on his first raid and become a man. The story takes place in El Paso, Texas, which has a very hot climate and is nestled by many mountains, cliffs, and canyons. Brennan loves to run, but he says that he does it for himself. The track coach urges him to play but he won’t.
The Anasazi and Chaco Canyons More than over a thousand years ago in the southwest part of the United States; Utah, Colorado, Chaco Canyons and Arizona meets were the Anasazi Indians settled down in the Chaco Canyon. The fictional story “Canyons” by Gary Paulsen is an average and predictable book meant for younger ages than middle schoolers. “Canyons” is set in El Paso, Texas in a small, poor town which is a few miles away from a nature-protected canyon called “Dog Canyon’’. There are 2 main characters, one is Coyote Runs. Coyote is a young boy (14 years) who is determined to become a man in his tribe.

The Anasazi were an Indian Tribe, whose disappearance still remains to be a mystery today. They were a civilization built in as early as 1500 B.C… occupying what is known as the four corners (Roberts, David 2003). After building their cliff side pueblos, it is said the Anasazi abandoned their homes and belongings in Mesa Verde and left in a hurry. Based on the Navajo language, the word Anasazi translates as “ancient enemy” (“10 facts about Anasazi” 2015). They are thought to be the ancestor of the modern pueblo Indians.
There is a type of fish in aquariums, that when it swims, it looks like a dragon or like a horse, it’s relative. The leafy sea dragon is a type of sea dragon that looks like seaweed when it swims with many brown and yellow leaf shaped spines all over it’s body. It lives on the south coast of austrailia, the only place too see these little guys. The leafy sea dragon almost looks spiny, it could really creep people out with its “leaves” but its not hurtful at all. The leafy seadragon is a mastermind, it camouflouges really welll, is a carnivore, and has a weird way of mating.

They lived on the Texas frontier, where they had modern homes and social communities and a simple way of life farming and taking care of the household. The children had schools to learn and play, they were taught about religion for they went to church with their parents. The pioneers' life was completely different from the Native Americans. As the author states in chapter eight, “Death on the red river” how the Comanche’s lifestyle was, “these last Comanche holdouts had everything they needed to sustain their way of life, and that didn't include white people’s houses or churches or schools for their children”(Zesch 158).
Most people envision a perfect place as a place peaceful and secluded. However, this place may not always seem perfect. A canyon that is a perfect, untouched place is the setting for the short story All Gold Canyon by Jack London. This story has a human vs. nature conflict in it that is the basis for the whole story. To truly understand this story one must know that symbolism of nature, the conflicts, and why Jack London probably wrote this story.

Two things the Aztec culture is known for are human sacrifice and agriculture. However, historians should emphasize the role of agriculture in this civilization. They should focus more on agriculture because it helped them expand their empire, develop their technology, and the scale of usage.
