Challenges For International Students In The US

Many international students struggle when they come to the USA to further their education in our universities (Loli 2012). While their conversational English is great in many cases, English used in the classroom can be quite difficult. A great majority of homework done at colleges and universities is comprised of reading in writing. Often, Universities and Colleges have programs to help these students improve their English. Neil Anderson, Program Coordinator of the English Language Center at Brigham Young University, said, “We focus specifically on the reading and writing challenges because we recognize that those two areas, academically, have to be very strong in order for an international student to be successful” (Anderson 2012) International students will experience more ease and success in not just their academic life, but their personal lives as well (Mossler). Our communications campaign will provide international students with the opportunity and the information needed to participate and succeed in English classes. This strategic communications plan will outline the campaign’s purpose, audience, messaging goals, key messages, channels, and tactical plan.

Most of them are learning a second language, an experience that is really hard and challenging and not well understood by others in the USA. They leave their home countries to come and learn a second language in order to go back to their own country and apply it by having better jobs. On the other side, the native English speakers are students that might be interested in helping others learn the language by applying their own English skills and desires to help others. Some of them have had the experience to learn a second language, which is something that motivates them to
