In today's world, we face numerous societal issues that require immediate attention and action. These issues range from poverty and inequality to climate change and resource depletion. While all generations need to contribute to solving these issues, the younger generation's role is particularly crucial. This is because the younger generation is the future of our society, and their actions and decisions will shape the course of our world. Therefore, the younger generation must step up and actively participate in finding solutions to these pressing societal issues. Any one of these will help you understand why it’s imperative to find solutions. However, it’ll also help you understand the root causes, the impact on people and society, and possible solutions. One example of an effective novel that discusses a pressing social issue is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. The Hate U Give is a novel and movie about a sixteen-year-old person of color named Starr Carter who lives in a poor neighborhood but attends a fancy suburban prep school. The balance is already uneasy but becomes even more uneasy when Starr witnesses her childhood best friend, Khalil, get fatally shot by a white police officer. Khalil was unarmed. The fatal shooting took national headlines and people took to the streets in Khalil's name to protest the wrongful death. They also wanted to hopefully get justice for what happened to Khalil. The history regarding this issue dates back to the 1960s when LGBTQ+ people began organizing and demanding increased acceptance and legal protections. They have led to the decriminalization of homosexuality in many countries and the legalization of same-sex marriage in a growing number of places.
