Caring for the Future As old generations go away new generations come and it is new generations that society has to care for since they are the ones that will shape what is to come in history. If society does not look after the new generation then we might not be able to picture what the future will be like. The new generation that we have to look after is kids, those from the age of 5 until middle or high school. It is from the time they leave their parents to go to school, so parents cannot be with them at all times to watch out what they are doing. There comes a point when parents can no longer monitor everything their children do and sometimes they end up learning stuff that are not correct. These clubs are the following: Lee Club, Wylie Club, Martinez Club and Highland Club. The club that I will be focusing the most out of the four is Martinez Club since it is the club I served in. The purpose of Abilene Boys and Girls Clubs is to help every children succeed in their life, community and school. It is said that the most dangerous hours for children are those after school, form 3 to 8 p.m., so The Clubs offer a safe and healthy environment where they can work and have fun. In Abilene statistics have shown that children who are enrolled in one of the clubs graduate at a 67% higher rate than those who are not enrolled in any club. Some of the children who are enrolled in a club come from a hard background. During our interview he was able to answer us and give us a description of the club. Noe Espinoza stated the following about the purpose of the club: “To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.” Martinez club currently holds around 190 members and staff. A day in this club usually is that they arrive and work on their homework, then they are given their snack and then they can proceed to keep working homework, or play around (Espinoza). Martinez Club is blessed to have a great installment with a lot of resources for the children to use, but not all the Clubs are the same. Some have better resources than the others. One struggle that the director of Martinez Club mentioned is the struggle of “recruiting and keeping quality members employed.” The main purpose of the clubs to help children reach their greatest potential by helping them in their homework, developing their characters, helping out in the community and many other activities
