Urban Peak Its mission is to help teenagers from homelessness by making use of their own potential to achieve a fulfilling life. Urban Peak is a non-profit organization that helps any adolescent, age 15 through 24, who are living in the streets or are at risk of becoming homeless. No knowledge or skills are required to have access to their services or classes. They receive income from the government, foundation, individuals, corporations, and other. The services offered at Urban Peak are: - An overnight shelter: they have 40 beds in which teens age 15 to 20 can spend the night - Drop-In Center and street outreach: teens can obtain the essential needs such as breakfast, laundry, showers, etc., while also being offered support, guidance in topics like finances, sex education, etc. - Education: GED preparation, assistance to get back into high school, or college is offered. - Employment: they …show more content…
It started as a daytime drop-in center, but then it became an overnight shelter in the basement of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. Due to the increasing number of homeless teens, the community and Urban Peak were able to open a licensed shelter. As years passed by, Urban Peak was able to expand its services and open another branch in Colorado Springs in 2000 (Urban Peak, n.d.). I would implement different kinds of clubs (e.g. athletic, arts, music, etc.) within the program. The program would have musical instruments, cooking classes, internship/volunteer opportunities, and sport equipment. The addition of these clubs into the program would help the teens feel more comfortable towards the people they are around, and to create a sense of community among the individuals living there.
