From rock climbing club to chemistry club, most colleges offer it all. Colleges would claim that the purpose of these groups is to give students the chance to try new things and to meet new people. This exposes students to new cultures, religions, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds, all while broadening their social networks. I would argue that the plethora of organizations actually adds segregation to college campuses. According to Boyd, people, “look for ‘safe spaces’ and ‘culture fit.’
The club is open to any 8th-12th grade student at FCS. During lunch meetings and other service activities, they strive to promote positive interpersonal, cross-cultural, and citizenship skills. The first “lunch without labels” was held on November 8th in the band room. The objective was to provide a progressive outlet for any student struggling to overcome intolerance. Members discussed organizing a positive poster campaign to reiterate the MBI universals in our hallways.
The addition of these clubs into the program would help the teens feel more comfortable towards the people they are around, and to create a sense of community among the individuals living there. I think it’s necessary to do this because it’s possible that the adolescents are not making friends or they are not building a trusting relationship with the staff in the
There was a basketball team, which won the national championship. A theatre program, which put on skits. They even held a beauty pageant! But eventually, fewer and fewer people came. Their audience, including the 11 board members of the club, grew older.
The atmosphere of Schoenfeld Campus Gym had been electrifying Thursday afternoon. The Fall Homecoming Pep Rally included numerous activities for Concordia’s sports team to partake in. For example, one “challenge” involved a member of the sports team getting wrapped up in toilet paper, under the pressure of a time clock. When time ran out, whichever individual was wrapped in the most toilet paper (or looked the most like they had just emerged from an Egyptian pyramid) won that game. The CCNY Pep Rally acted as an opportunity for the rest of the student body to become familiar with our famed athletic program, and to mingle with this elite status of the student.
In the fall of my eighth grade year, I was sworn in to NJHS, an event with as much gusto and bravado as can be expected of a middle school celebration. For the first time, I faced a new frontier. While others slaved over the idea of mandatory community service, my stomach clenched at the thought of new people. Interacting with strangers? I came close to
Regret has long motivated people to learn from their mistakes, as the Fullmetal Alchemist shows. In the manga Fullmetal Alchemist Volumes 1-3 by Hiromu Arakawa, a Japanese manga artist, a state alchemist named Edward Elric and his brother Alphonse Elric face a hard enduring journey trying to get their original bodies back from a previous experience that did not go as well as they were hoping. Edward and Alphonse struggle with the outcome of losing bits and pieces of their bodies when they experiment human transmutation on their mother. The only way they can possibly return to their original lives and bodies is if they can find the philosopher's stone, which has the ability to return their bodies back to the normal state. Edward’s regretful
I completed the task of organizing an entire spring break trip in Colorado, for our club to build homes for families in need. I was blown away from the help and support that our Lakeland community had given me during each phase of this trip. That support was also exemplified while planning events and activities for the other on-campus organizations I was involved with -- Spanish Club, Badminton Club, Hospitality Club, and the National Spanish Honors Society. Planning these events helped instill the sense of community among the campus.
Sharon Stevenson Eng 210 Albin April 18, 2024 The Invaluable Impact of Boys & Girls Clubs For many years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America have been a foundation of support for youth, offering important after-school programs that promote development, education, and community. Even while it has a significant impact on millions of lives, it is still not given enough credit in the larger conversation about youth development and education. From a closer look at its offerings and the successful outcomes for its participants, this organization is more than just an additional educational facility—rather, it is a vital lifeline for the communities it serves.
While I was completely immersed with B.A.S.E., I was nominated to become the President of S.A.P.E. (Students Advocating for a Positive Environment) a sister club, focusing on anti-bullying and pro-positivity among students. We launched an anonymous bullying incident reporting system by creating an anonymous email address monitored by a teacher. Cards with reporting details were handed out to students in October to celebrate bullying awareness month. To promote diversity, we held a book read for Black History month and a churro fund-raising sale during the Hispanic Heritage month.
Since my first day as an honors student at Miami Dade College, my enthusiasm and curiosity led me to explore and be involved in campus activities, especially the club rush, where the student organizations gather and recruit new members. I was in the search for an organization that supported me through my adaptation process, offered me opportunities to grow as an individual and a leader in my community, and empowered me to take challenges beyond my comfort zone. Definitely, Phi Beta Lambda met all my requirements and exceeded my expectations. FBLA-PBL is considered the largest career student organization in the world whose mission is to bring business and education together through innovative leadership and career development. Therefore, I strived
Not only do these clubs recognize academic excellence, they also provide many opportunities for community service. Blood drives, food drives and Operation Christmas Child are only a few of the projects that we participate in throughout the year. I am
The club is filled by 10th, 11th and 12th graders as well. As freshmen, we have learned the rules we need
Although I continued to enjoy dressing well junior year, I started to look for more creative ways to stand out. I heard about the girls’ volleyball games and decided to combine my rebellious energy with genuine school spirit by cheering for our team. In the volleyball student section, I met wonderful friends who encouraged me to exercise leadership and creativity. Zippy, David, and Winnie, boys who traveled with me up to 45 minutes to support the volleyball team, convinced me to enter a school karaoke competition with them under the name “The Acafellas.”
Joining clubs and participating in activities within your school is like setting yourself up for your future goals by getting new contacts and meeting new people. School clubs and activities are great opportunities that students can take to gain experience in a certain area of expertise. Some of these clubs and activities are more well known and joined because of the many great learning experiences it offers. Out of all the clubs students enjoy, one of them is Future Business Leaders of America of FBLA. FBLA is one club that students enjoy because it offers opportunities to meet people with the same interest, develop skills in leading a business, and meet successful business leaders around our community.
