Since my first day as an honors student at Miami Dade College, my enthusiasm and curiosity led me to explore and be involved in campus activities, especially the club rush, where the student organizations gather and recruit new members. I was in the search for an organization that supported me through my adaptation process, offered me opportunities to grow as an individual and a leader in my community, and empowered me to take challenges beyond my comfort zone. Definitely, Phi Beta Lambda met all my requirements and exceeded my expectations. Due to my commitment to Phi Beta Lambda and its mission, I decided to run as the President during my sophomore year at my school’s chapter. I had the purpose of reaching and encouraging more students, including biology, engineering, and journalism majors to take advantage of the wonderful opportunities that this organization offers. Besides, by working together with my club’s advisor and my officers, I intended to make the conference trips affordable to a broader range of students, and prepared them for the competitions using study groups and tutoring sessions. Now that my presidency is about to end, I am proud to say we have increased the official membership of the club and for this reason, we achieved third place as the Largest Local Chapter in Florida. In addition, after an arduous effort fundraising and decreasing the travel costs by working together with other campuses, we took the largest group in our chapter’s history to the PBL State Leadership Conference.
