Essay: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Application

The initial reason I became interested in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was due to the relationships I had built with two exceptional women, who coincidently are members of this illustrious sorority. I am immeasurably grateful to my village of supporters who have guided me to my achievements thus far, but most importantly to the Academic Dean of Cranbrook Horizon Upwards Bound, Ms. Brenda Gatlin and high school Guidance Counselor, Ms. Tracey Penick.
Since and throughout my high school matriculation I have always been a strategic goal orientated scholar. It is because of that mindset that I am currently a full-time sophomore at TSU, majoring in Communication with a concentration in Theatre and a minor in Africana Studies. Gatlin persistence on volunteering in the HUB garden that planted the importance of serving those less fortunate in our community in me. I understood that I was blessed by people that were paying it forward and that I too could be influential to others. So I made it my National Honor Society duty to take that initiative, serving my peers through that platform. Ms. Penick was my number one college influence, she aided me through the entire college process, from applying to schools, scholarships, and even sharing her college experience at TSU with me. The impact these two members have made on my life is still indescribable. I know both women guidance shared with my fellow peers and I, are the repercussion of the legacy they live by each day. As well as the formulation of the organization that committed themselves to serving by empowering their community in every aspect.
Now as an adult defining the meaning of things for myself, I’m thankful that their actions sparked this interest in me. However, that’s not my sole motivation for membership, I’ve grown more dedicated to my interest through research of the organization as well as through my self-discovery. I would like to become a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. It would be remarkable to bring forth my objectives for the entire African American community and exercise the faith of united innovators for the greater good.
