At Western Michigan University, there are many micro-cultures. One particular micro-culture I want to belong to is a sorority by the name of Delta Sigma Theta, incorporated. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 13, 1913, 103 years ago, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is the largest African-American Greek-lettered organization.
The integrity of Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated is to be upheld by Active Members, Alumnae members, Associate members, current potential new members and former potential new members. If Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated’s practices are learned by those who aren’t a part of it, it will be subjected to scrutiny and ridicule. People who are not a part of Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated do not understand the meaning behind each act and might condemn it. The sorority also then falls victim to any other organizations who might possibly try to slow down, or even worse, shut down Alpha Phi Gamma Sorority, Incorporated’s rush, process and Sisterhood. The purpose of these other organizations doing so lies within their own self- interest.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Community Service on January 13th 1913 on the campus of Howard University by 22 collegiate women previous members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. left the organization after wanting to change the direction of the sorority including the name, colors, motto, creed, and the shield. These 22 women wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to those in need. After the idea was rejected by Graduate chapter member Nellie Quander and other graduate members they reorganized under their own sorority known as Delta Sigma Theta. I wanted join Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. sense my sophomore year of college. I want to have the brotherhood to help me grow intellectually, socially and intellectually. All these things I want and support I have seen in various moment through my experience with the brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity,
My intention is not to join this organization to step or because I like to party but, because I believe whole-heartedly in the values of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., scholarship, service, sisterhood and finer womanhood. I believe that through Zeta Phi Beta Inc. I will be able to fine tune my leadership skills, make lifelong friendships and help people on my journey as others did for me. It is my hope that this lifestyle will change my life for the better.
Reflecting on my reasoning on why I wanted to become a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated I knew that I had to speak on all of the women who have instilled some type of morals and values that A Delta woman holds. It was the way they walked, talked, and cared for me like their own and their ability to be selfless. Seeing the way these women have made others and myself feel was convincing enough for me to be sold on my decision to take this path. Sisterhood is key within the women of Delta Sigma Theta. I intentionally surround myself with women of good character.
Explain your interest in joining Phi Delta Epsilon-MA Alpha Chapter. * I want to join Phi Delta Epsilon because it would provide me the chance to build lifelong connections and gain networking opportunities. Most importantly, I see myself forming a bond with other members, studying and sharing memories of what it’s like to be a premedical student at UMass Boston. The ability to connect, strive for success and learning from others with the same goal to attend medical school is what I’m truly seeking as a hopeful applicant of PhiDE. Joining the fraternity is the beginning phase of my strenuous road to become a successful physician.
I genuinely care about my sorority. I care about our reputation, as well as the safety and well-being of my sisters. Going through rush as a sophomore gave me a unique perspective about joining a sorority. I wasn’t there solely to make friends or go to socials and date nights. I was there to take advantage of everything a sorority had to provide for me at UGA.
“Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise, I rise, I rise.,” to become a Delta Woman. When asked to express why I should be awarded the honor & pleasure of being apart this great sorority; I must admit I was a bit overwhelmed but also very humbled. However, I am reminded of the great women Delta Sigma Theta has helped mold some of the most influential women in the world. I want to be apart of the most illustrious sorority organization.

As a student who values the ideas of hard work, leadership, and character, I am always looking for ways to improve and make a positive impact on my school and community. I believe these values align with my character and who I am as a student and human being in general, and I’m confident that my experiences and future goals make me a strong candidate for this membership. Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in a variety of extracurricular activities, including leadership roles in the Murabee program at my local mosque and weekly volunteering at, not just our mosque’s Sunday School, but our very own school’s library too. At the library, I contribute to the monthly thematic decor and the new bookshelf organization system. Furthermore, my being the treasurer of the Science National Honor Society, the coordinator of the High School Reading Bowl, a writer for the Literary Magazine, a winner of the President’s Volunteer Service Award for volunteering more than 100 hours, published in a local bookstore’s anthology, and CPR certified through the Science National Honor Society underscores my passion for creativity and academics.
I understand that not all brotherhoods are especially positive and have approbatory aims. For instance being part of a gang may mean you have a support system and are part of a brotherhood, but it does not mean you are bettering yourself. One other main reason why I have a desire to become a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity is because I want to have positive impact on the community around me, whether it be Temple University’s community or the general Philadelphia area. It would bring me great joy to be a part of an Alpha Phi Alpha project that would include reaching out to the youth of Philadelphia.
Being a member of a sorority is a time sensitive objective. Countless hours of work go into each position or event held by the members of that chapter. There are many traditions and rituals that have to be done weekly. After experiencing, observing, and interviewing Alpha Delta Pi and its New Member Coordinator I have learned that being apart of a sorority is not about the title, but about being apart of something bigger than yourself. Strenuous hours of work go into keeping the chapter running its best, and none of that could be possible without the New Member Coordinator, Allie.
To the women of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated: The purpose of this letter is to inform you of my interest in becoming a member of the grad chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated. My desire to inspire young men and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. While growing up at a young age my mom worked out of my sibling lives. I did not have many positive female role models I could look to for guidance in different situations.
I try to be involved in anything I can to help the school, from being an active member of the tennis team, volunteering at several locations to give back to the world, and being apart of REBEL to help spread awareness and guide people to make better decisions.
