SIGMA KAPPA SORORITY STANDARDS COUNCIL Purpose/Goal The purpose of a standards council is to work with the chapter members to maintain high personal and group standards through positive reinforcement, appropriate discipline, and member education. A positive standards program is dependent on the standards council, the vehicle through which all standards programs are delivered. A standards council can help a chapter through the following: ¥ Preserving chapter harmony ¥ Enforcing the chapter Code of Conduct and national policy ¥ Aiding in the enforcement of scholastic and attendance obligations of members ¥ Helping to solve personal conflicts between chapter members ¥ Positively affecting the chapter as a whole The standards council includes …show more content…

I genuinely care about my sorority. I care about our reputation, as well as the safety and well-being of my sisters. Going through rush as a sophomore gave me a unique perspective about joining a sorority. I wasn’t there solely to make friends or go to socials and date nights. I was there to take advantage of everything a sorority had to provide for me at UGA. In Sigma Kappa, I found a sisterhood full of girls who truly are examples of excellence. I remember looking up to Taylor Haynes and even Kat Gillanders for their leadership around campus, and the level with which they carried themselves. I am proud that the girls of Sigma Kappa can walk around UGA without people thinking “look at that trashy sorority girl”. A big role in this is what the Standards Council does. It is important to have a program to steer college students in the right way when they start to go down a negative path. I would like to play a role in holding this standard for all the PC’s to come, so that the Epsilon Epsilon chapter can always be proud of its …show more content…

It can be a difficult time considering the people who usually provide support and direction to them are no longer with them 24/7. Joining the Greek community is a great way to find that support in your sisters, and to find a place to fit in when everything feels so overwhelming. In addition to helping you find your friends, a sorority is also meant to provide some stability to the crazy experience that is college. This, in my opinion, is where the Standards Council comes in. It can be easy in college to get caught up in parties, socials, football games, etc. Sometimes people lose sight of other important things, such as doing their best to excel in school, on campus, and most importantly, representing themselves in a positive light. Yes, standards is about discipline, but I also believe it is about providing a hand to help lead the way through difficult situations, when there usually isn’t someone else to. The Standards Council should be a place of trust and reinforcement, in addition to
