Change. It’s what many people fear. What would you do if something so familiar in your life was gone; changed forever? Changing the Australian flag would be taking away a piece of our country 's heritage. As Dame Quentin Bryce commented, "Our flag, and icon of our shared identity, is much loved, worn and flown by Australians here and across the world." By altering the flag, we would be destroying the many memories that have gone with it. Is this really what you want for our country?

Changing the flag may seem like the best option at first, but when you see the consequences that would follow with it, is it the best option? If the flag changed it would become very confusing not only for people in Australia but also for people visiting Australia and other people around the world. As stated from Flags Australia, “The current flag is already well known internationally and it its distinctive and attractive design is effective in promoting Australian identity overseas.” This shows that if it was changed no one would recognise it as we are all comfortable with the current flag.

As you can see, changing the Australian flag isn 't the best option for our county. By changing the flag, it would become confusing for people to recognise it because the current flag is all we know. It would be very expensive, and that money could be used on better things. And finally, by changing the flag we would be disrespectful to those who have fought under it so that our nation is what it is today. As the Sydney Morning Herald states, "A flag is meant to be a symbol that endures even as the nation changes. If we were to "update our brand" to reflect a changing Australia, we 'd be running a new design up the flagpole every decade or so.
