Admonishable Alcohol Change is good- Sometimes it may take a while to adjust. Sometimes not everyone will have the same opinion; however, in order to keep moving forward and to keep policies current and effectively functioning, change must take place. One change that should happen in modern U.S society is the legal drinking age. Right now, it is sitting at the age of twenty-one, which simply does not match the other age restricted freedoms in our country. A logical decision would be to change the drinking age to eighteen. They get the freedoms of everything an adult should have, besides drinking alcohol. In order for it all to make sense, the government should either move the drinking age down, or move all the other freedoms of adulthood up to twenty-one.
Lowering the drinking age is not only the logical decision but also the safer decision. When we analyze the effectiveness of the current law, we need to look past the drunk driving incidents and all of the year to year statistics and ask ourselves.. is the law working? Are people only drinking at the age of twenty-one. The answer is undeniably no. The law is a failure. It is a fruitless law and is broken constantly. Change is necessary to accommodate the current situations and circumstances. We usually only see statistics of deaths on the highways or roadways, however, “lives lost to alcohol in the dark rooms and behind clothes doors where the law has forced it are no less precious” (Drinking Age Debate 1).
