The seven processes managers use to staff an HCO are: Planning for staff (which entails forecasting future staffing requirements and deciding on how to ensure the availability of needed workers). Designing jobs and work includes determining for a job the work tasks, rules, supervision, schedules, etc. Hiring staff is pretty self-explanatory in that it involves recruiting/selecting workers for jobs. Training and developing staff helps with growth of workers through new skills, knowledge, behaviors, etc. for current/future jobs. Appraising performance just lets a worker know how well they’re doing their job by evaluations/discussions of their job performances. Compensating staff is a big part of retaining employees, as this is how their pay, incentives, and benefits are determined. The purpose of a job description is to make it easier to decide which applicants are the right fit for the job, evaluate the job performances of existing employees, and to explain jobs (made viewable to applicants). It includes information such as minimum qualifications, authority, working conditions, reporting relationships, salary range, etc. 7. Some appropriate questions for a manager to ask an applicant during a job interview would be: “How do you feel you’d make a contribution to this company? Why should we hire you? What are your strengths and weaknesses? Describe a time you were put in a difficult situation and what did you do to overcome it?”. Inappropriate questions would include: “How did you become disabled? What’s your nationality? How many kids do you have or plan on having? How old are you?”.
