The book of Joshua begins as God commands Joshua to cross the Jordan River and to courageously lead Israelites into the Promised Land. Joshua sends two men to spy Jericho. When king of Jericho searched for the spies, Rahab hides them. In return of her favor, she pleads the spies to spare her and her family’s life on the day Jericho is destroyed.
After Israelites arrive at the Jordan River, God orders the priests with the ark to lead the way. When they stepped into the water, the river stops and Israelites cross safely. On the other side of the river, Gilgal, people start to eat foods from Canaan, celebrate Passover, and get circumcised. Also, the Commander of the Lord appears to Joshua and tells him about the strategies for conquering Jericho.
