The Mall Personal Response In “The Mall”, Alan Brinkley discusses the growth and popularity of malls and shopping centers internationally over time. Brinkley talks about shopping districts and how they were a community shopping and entertainment center for diverse families and teens to enjoy themselves. Although the first mall opened in 1924, this statement is still true to many people ‘til this day. Throughout high school, my friends and I would hang out at the mall and eat at the food court.
The documentary 13th was released on October 7, 2016 and it triggered a worldwide shock. As a documentary, it was adept enough to address several ongoing issues, especially regarding the maltreatment of African Americans, but the documentary was shaped around the theme that African Americans were never free, and continue to fight for that freedom. The content within the documentary varied from earlier times where slavery, segregation and, Jim Crow laws existed to the more implicit manner of racism that is presented through the massive imprisonment of African Americans, and unjustified use of the criminal justice system against them. The documentary revolves around three main themes: the overrepresentation of African Americans in the media,
As I walk through the mall, I see a diverse community of people coming together; hence, the mall stays crowded even on weekdays. Age groups from teenagers to elderly people swarm all around the elegant mall, but why? Lenox appeals to each age group with desired stores, for example, a teenager loves to shop at Hollister, Abercrombie or American Eagle while an older shopper may go to Brooks Brothers, Banana Republic, or Anthropologie. In addition, not only does Lenox offer a wide variety of stores, but also Lenox is conveniently located right off the highway, so it is easily accessible. A Marta Station is also positioned right next to the mall within a suitable walk distance to the food court.
If I was hired as a consultant for Target, I would be sure to use the four functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling in those order to overcome the problem of showrooming (Bethel University, 2014). Planning is fundamental to set goal, and decide how to achieve those goals (Kinicki & Williams, 2013). Organizing, in the business world is “arranging tasks, people and resource to accomplish the work that needs to be done” (Bethel University, 2014, Slide 12). Get different people from different departments to work together. Bring everyone together to accomplish the set goals and working as one.
The film 13th is a documentary that explains how the prison systems are another form of slavery and is built to effect colored individuals and colored communities. The film identifies and explained a loop hole in the 13th amendment, which banned slavery. The loop in the amendment is that slavery and involuntary servitude is illegal unless a person is convicted of a crime. This clause in the amendment led to the first prison boom in America and mass incarceration. This film opened my eyes to underlying aspects of things that I have had previous knowledge about.

The “13th” is a documentary about the American system of incarceration and the economic forces behind racism in America especially in people of color. One of the claims that the author mentioned is that today incarceration is an extension of slavery. It is also mentioned that most of the time in society we are defined by race. In the documentary, we can see how African Americans are sentenced for many years since they are too poor to pay their fines or sometimes most of these people plead guilty to get out of jail fast. However, African Americans are separated from their families and also treated inhumanly in prisons just because they are of a particular race.
The 13th Documentary We can see that this documentary has been made for society to recognize that we live in a country where slavery still exists. It talks about the fact of how the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world, where Blacks make approximately 40% in prison, even though they make around 12% of the U.S. population. They were seen as "super predators" and still seem as criminals. Injustices are still made among the black community because many of them who go to prison are innocent. Whites are less likely to go to prison for the same crimes that Blacks commit.
Pizarro and the Conquistadors came to view the Inca civilization as a utopia where they could establish their power and control over for personal gain. The conquest would lead to drastic change that would forever change the future of the region and continent. The role of the catholic religion justified the often inhumane acts such as rampant murder and abuse of the native population with the grounded justification that they [the conquistadors] were performing a service in the name of god. “as human beings, Indians were not exempt from original sin...abhorrent customs, sexual practices, family structure, religious rituals, and presumed human sacrifices were all sinful” (pg 21). The quote demonstrates just one of the many ‘justifiable’ reasons the conquistadors felt that their acts of violence were

12 Angry Men, begins with the scene of a courtroom where the decision of a murder trial was being taken. In the case, the son was accused of killing his father and that was what was asked by the Jury of the 12 men to deliberate upon. All of them had to come to one single decision and give the verdict, i.e. every member should be having the same opinion in the end. They had to prove whether the boy was guilty or not guilty of murder.
Guterson’s “Enclosed. Encyclopedic. Endured: The Mall of America” conveys the reality of the mall through his language, diction and closed-minded tone shifting to a realistic and assertive attitude reinforcing his point that malls are getting bigger and better, looking to take over society socially and emotionally. Guterson uses language to convey that malls are taking away the social aspect of society.
The Mazur plan divides into four functional areas of retail activities. These five areas are merchandising, publicity, store management, human resources and control. These areas make up the typical merchandising structure chart underneath the company’s chief executive officer. These different divisions contain a number of different departments and personnel who have specified tasks and jobs to carry out. In order for the store to be successful, there is a great deal of communication and interaction within the departments to remain as a cohesive unit.
It’s pretty crazy how so much can change over a short span of time. People, places, relationships, perspectives. It’s been a year since I began college at Syracuse University and as I sit in my bedroom back home in Bombay and reflect on the past one year, I have a bag full of memories and experiences. Good and bad of course, because what would life be without a few bumps right? I definitely think that going to college was a significant milestone in my life because I’m an only child and the first person in my family getting an education abroad.
