Schmidt, the lead character, Holling Hoodhood has a dad who’s constantly agitated and distressed about his job. Her parents wanted it done in the first season but Anne has one problem. Spots. With this imperfection Anne has a low self esteem and confidence which meant she was afraid to do anything to upset her parents further.

Characters in “All Quiet on the Western Front” continually die throughout the story due to wounds that they sustain during battle. An influential character to the development of the novel, Kemmerich, dies early on. In his important role in the novel, Kemmerich has a deep camaraderie with his fellow soldiers, an impactful death, and his symbol of the inability to have good foresight. An important part of being in war: the ability to trust fellow soldiers, camaraderie, and Kemmerich displays this perfectly. When Kemmerich dies, Paul and other soldiers stay by his side, and his “face is still wet from the tears” after leaving his comrades to continue fighting in war (Remarque 32).

Erich Remarque, author of the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, presents a true story of a soldier throughout World War I. At the young age of 19, Paul Bäumer voluntarily enters the draft to fight for his home country, Germany. Throughout the war, Paul disconnects his mind from his feelings, keeping his emotions away from the bitter reality he is experiencing. This helps him survive mentally throughout the course of the war. The death of Paul 's friend Kemmerich forces him to cover his grief, “My limbs move supplely, I feel my joints strong, I breathe the air deeply. The night lives, I live.”
Throughout the book we can see the change in the main character Jean’s attitude toward the war. During the beginning of the war he enlists due to his strong want to have an adventure that he will remember for years to come and a feeling of duty to his nation, France. This was common among men during the beginning of the war, they saw it as their right of passage, the great adventure that they were all waiting for to save them from their boring lives. His time in basic training proved to him that he is not the ideal candidate for a soldier. After he was denied becoming an officer, he would try to avoid basic duties that normal soldiers were assigned.
There are lots of characteristics that one must learn tactics for survival while on the front line during the war, these traits decide between life and death. In order to survive, Mueller, in All Quiet on the Western Front, Remarque portrays him as crude, unthoughtful, and reluctant. There are many words that describe the way he treats others, at times he does not consider what he is saying; he tends to speak before he thinks. He “is rather crude and tactless” due to how he spoke to others, he tends to step out of his place (Remarque 14). Being involved in war may have shaped him to be this way, although this is one of his highly notable traits.
He is a man changed by the power of war. As he fully enters his time on leave, he also discerns that no one at the homeland can fathom what it is like to actually fight in a war and how severe the aftermath is. He enters his mother’s home and feels out of place: “‘You are at home...” a sense of strangeness will not leave me, I cannot feel at home amongst these things” (160). Paul has been away for months. He sees many battles and hears many cries of agony.
In the year 1914, a war started that would turn innocent people against each other, and have aftermaths that include thousands of people dead due to new equipment like tanks, gas attacks, and hand-to-hand combat. In this war there was a soldier named Paul Bäumer who is a German nineteen year old who has made friends that will last a lifetime during this experience, but has also felt immense pain. His daily routine is to sleep, eat, and fight in the trenches, and he experiences death every day. Most soldiers view death as a recurring event, but Paul views it as wretchedness, which makes him different from others by caring about his comrades more than others. Paul shows many qualities through this experience of being a soldier in the First World War, and he learns what is necessary in life, which takes some people years to figure out.
Tjaden, a character from All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, is a young, cunning soldier in World War I who symbolizes the coward who uses humor to ease his fear. With the largest appetite out of all his friends and a resentment towards his training officer, Himmelstoss, Tjaden shows the least amount of concern about the war. However, Tjaden has a weakness: “Tjaden wets the bed, he does it at night in his sleep” (45). This fault in Tjaden’s playful character could show the true fear he is covering up with his humor. Tjaden is a young man and has the right to be afraid, but with his confident personality, he is unwilling to show his terror.
In the novel, the first most relevant posttraumatic behaviors are demonstrated through Paul's character, by means of him reflecting on his past interests he had before entering the war, in comparison to his attitude after. When Paul returned home he began to experience isolating thoughts: “I imagined leave would be different from this. Indeed, it was different a year ago. It is I, of course, that has changed in the interval. There lies a gulf between that time and today.
You might be wondering, “When do I stop, shake and scream.” Well all of these are typical reactions of people with post traumatic stress disorder also known as PTSD. This disorder is show in, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, in 1928. This story is a novel that takes place during World War One. Shellshock, as it was once known, is a physiological disorder which is normally caused by a person's exposure to horror, such as warfare activity which causes a person to reminisce older experiences.
This only compounds his alienation from civilian life, nothing was the same, he was away from the trenches, but still lay in them. All that Paul knew and loved before had become useless to him, none is needed in battle, therefore was forgotten. Remarque invokes an end for Paul in chapter 12 of the novel, he, the last soldier alive out of his troop of seven men. Germany became desperate and revolts as the war comes to an end. Paul returns home again, this time waiting to die,war has taken everything away from him.
In 1944, in the village of Sighet, Romania, seventeen-year-old Baldwin goodwind spends much of his time playing basketball with is friends having fun, but one day one of his best friends named Austin came in running. While struggling to speak form being tired, he told all the teens” Germans are taking people for no reason”. Everyone laughed including Baldwin at the same time could Austin be telling the truth. They continued to play basketball and a few moments later they hear screaming in the distance. Austin looked in the direction and said “ see people are being taken from their homes”.
